Concussions
From the CDC – What is a Concussion?
“A concussion is a brain injury. Concussions are caused by a bump or blow to the head. Even a ‘ding,’ ‘getting your bell rung,’ or what seems to be a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious.”

Concussions can occur for various reasons
At NYA we are concerned mostly for those that occur during an athletic event. To assist in the management of concussions NYA utilizes a software program that can provide health care providers valuable information when managing recovery from a concussion. To learn more about this program refer to this link. ImPACT – Concussion Management Software
NYA policy
It is the policy at NYA that if it a student has or possibly has a concussion they will have an evaluation by a physician and a post concussion ImPACT test. After sustaining a concussion, students may not resume athletics until they have been cleared by a physician. A common quote on concussion care:
“IT IS BETTER TO MISS ONE GAME THAN THE WHOLE SEASON”
