Director of Institutional Advancement

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Institutional Advancement (“the Director”) is responsible for the management and execution of all admissions operations, development and fund raising initiatives, and the alumni relations for North Yarmouth Academy (NYA).  The Director serves as a member of the Senior Staff leadership team and works closely with the Trustees, Head of School, Senior Staff, faculty, and staff to assure that all admissions and development efforts are aligned with NYA’s values, mission, and strategic objectives.  The Director plays a key role in outreach and external relations and in conjunction with the Head of School, contributing an important voice in determining best practices for revenue generation. The Director also helps to determine strategy and evaluate feasibility for the long-term objectives of the school.

DUTIES: The Director supervises all aspects of admissions at NYA, including overseeing marketing initiatives and materials, student recruitment, on-campus visits, open houses and other admissions events as well as the evaluation of student applications, acceptances, and financial aid awards.   The Director manages all aspects of donor and alumni relations, including cultivation, solicitation, planned giving, and stewardship. The Director also oversees major fund raising initiatives such as capital campaigns and endowment growth.  The Director facilitates public and private institutional relationships such as foundation support for grants and wider advancement goals while contributing to the school’s publications, communications and public relations activities.

SKILL SET: The Director must be exceptionally well organized, creative, goal-oriented, and diligent and must work well independently and collaboratively in a supportive workplace with high standards. The Director must demonstrate strong, convincing, and persuasive verbal and written communication skills and be capable of serving as an ambassador for NYA’s multiple constituencies. Travel is required, as is evening and weekend work on a regular basis.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college, and a minimum of five years experience (or equivalent) in advancement, admissions, development, alumni relations or related field, with indication of success in prior positions. Valid driver’s license and passport. Ability to travel, at times on short notice. Preferred: Graduate degree and experience in an independent Middle or Upper School; familiarity with Maine and northern New England philanthropic communities; major gift and/or capital campaign experience.
