Our Application Process

Our application process begins when you contact us through our online inquiry form or when you call our office at 207.846.2376. We will then send you an admission packet with additional information. The next step is to schedule a visit and an interview. To complete the application process, each student’s family submits an application, distributes teacher recommendations, a personal recommendation, and signs and returns a waiver for school transcripts. All students are required to take the SSAT test (grades 6-12) or the ISEE test (grade 5). Click to view our Admission Calendar.

Below is a brief overview.

(1)   To receive the application materials, please call the Admission Office at 207.846.2376 or fill out our online inquiry form.

(2)  Schedule a campus visit and interview. Visit days begin on October 13 and take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Each student spends the day shadowing an NYA student in the grade they would be entering and meets with the Director or Assistant Director of Admission. Families also have the option of taking a campus tour as part of the visit day. To see a sample schedule, go to Middle School or Upper School links.

(3)  Complete the student and parent application forms and bring them with you to your interview, along with the $45 application fee, or mail them to the Admission Office prior to your visit. The application deadline for Early Decision is December 1. The application deadline for regular admission is February 10. Notification letters will be mailed on December 15 and March 10, respectively.

(4)  Testing is required for admission to NYA. Sign up for the Secondary School Admission Test – SSAT if you are applying for grades 6-12; or the Independent School Entrance Exam – ISEE if you are applying for grade 5.

NOTE: Applicants should register for one of the national test dates as soon as possible. For grades 6-12 register online at SSAT. The cost of the SSAT is $100.00. For grade 5 go to www.erbtest.org. The cost is $89. NYA is a test site for both tests. You may be eligible for a fee waiver based on your family’s annual income. Please call the Admission Office at 207.846.2376 to request a fee waiver. PSAT and SAT results reported in the current academic year are acceptable for eleventh and twelfth grade applicants.
