From Michael Gengras, Dean of Students:
Due to the inclement weather predicted to last all day on Friday, there have been some changes to the Friday Homecoming plans for Upper School Students.
Upper School Cook-out / Pot Luck – CANCELLED. Students will need to arrange for their own dinner, either bringing some food or money to purchase something at one of the many local options in walking distance (Clayton’s, Bruce’s, Romeo’s, Huffy’s, Subway, Rosemont)
Girls Volleyball Games – moved to JV 5:00 / Varsity 6:00
Pep Rally – will be held in the gym after the volleyball game (7:30ish.) There is an outside chance that the weather may break in time to allow the bonfire and pep rally outside.

Our MPA (Maine Principals’ Association) winter sports of basketball, indoor track and swimming begin practices on Monday, November 22. Thankfully, this year there is no conflict with NYA exams as there has been in the past. On the other hand, while there is no school for NYA for the Thanksgiving week beginning November 22, we still will be commencing our pre-season practices on that Monday. Most coaches expect to conduct practices on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday only of the week, and the final practice schedules will be up to the individual sport coaches. For those families who may be traveling away for the holiday, please keep this athletic schedule in mind.

On Wednesday, September 15, 2010, Portland-based environmental engineer William Colby-George helped bring the politics and culture of Afghanistan to life for Heidi Grant and Michael Gengras’s sophomore English students at North Yarmouth Academy (NYA). An employee of MACTEC, Colby-George’s purpose in Afghanistan was to design and implement a website for the Afghan government that would track repairs to newly constructed buildings. With visuals such as an Afghan visa, Afghan kites and string, a poster of current ruler Hamid Karzai, and items of clothing from Afghanistan, Colby-George spoke about his experiences and impressions during his three trips to Kabul.
