NYA offers a rigorous, college-preparatory program, which stresses study in the traditional disciplines. Middle School students carry five yearlong courses plus art and music. Upper School students carry five yearlong courses plus electives. Exceptions must be approved by the Middle School Head or Upper School Head (Mrs. Markonish or Mr. Drisko).
Seniors carry five courses in each of three trimesters. Under certain circumstances (e.g. multiple Advanced Placement classes), a senior may be granted permission to carry four courses. Exceptions must be approved by the Upper School Head (Mr. Drisko) and the Director of College Counseling (Mrs. Thomas).
It is not recommended that students take more than five homework courses plus electives in any one year. The school does not recommend that a student take more than three Advanced Placement courses at a time.
