A student may be placed on Disciplinary Probation after he or she commits a severe misconduct. If a student commits another severe misconduct while on probation, he or she could be suspended or expelled. The length of probation is determined by the Head of School in consultation with the Judiciary Committee. Certain offenses may result in a probationary status that prohibits a student from participating in athletic or extracurricular activities during the period of probation.
Students who hold positions of leadership are expected to uphold NYA’s code of behavior and to be positive role models for their peers. Therefore, if a student in a leadership position including, but not limited to, Class Officer, Student Council member, or member of the Judiciary Committee is placed on Disciplinary Probation, he/she may be asked to step down for a period of time commensurate with the severity of the infraction. Further, any student on Disciplinary Probation may be ineligible for election to an office in the following year. Exceptions to these policies are at the sole discretion of the Head of School.
