NYA Trustees Elect Frank Knight ’25 as Honorary Trustee

February 9, 2012

Ted Sharp (l) & Allen Bornheimer (r) present certificate to Frank Knight (seated)

The Board of Trustees at North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) elected Frank Knight, the school’s oldest living alumnus (Class of 1925) as an Honorary Trustee at their December meeting. Knight served on NYA’s Board of Trustees from 1955 to 1975. His son, Richard Knight, also attended NYA in the class of 1960. Board members Ted Sharp and Allen Bornheimer, both NYA Class of 1960, visited Knight at his home to present him with a framed certificate.

Knight, who is 103 years old, was the volunteer tree warden in Yarmouth for nearly fifty years. He made national news in January 2010 when 110-foot Herbie, a 240 year old elm tree that he nursed for many years, succumbed to Dutch elm disease and had to be cut down.

North Yarmouth Academy is an independent, college preparatory, coeducational day school serving students in grades five through twelve. For 198 years, NYA has fostered integrity, character and intellect in young adults. For more information, please contact NYA at 207-847-5423 or visit our website at www.nya.org
