Christmas Lights
by Acacia Bright ‘16
Two tiny Christmas lights
Lie side by side,
Surrounded by strangers
Some tall, some wide.
Deprived of a happy life
High in a tree,
Condemned to a dusty one
Filled with a longing to be free.
Christmas comes and goes
Year after year,
The lights start to lose hope
“The drawer won’t open,” they fear.
Two lights blink out
As their souls fade,
The bulbs from the drawer
Come to their aid.
They twinkle and blink
Sparkling for joy,
Putting smiles on the faces
Of every good girl and boy.
