Ways to Give

There are many ways to make a charitable contribution in support of NYA. Gifts may be unrestricted or earmarked to the annual fund, financial aid or another purpose. You may also designate your gift to the NYA endowment. Some donors make current gifts and others complete their commitment over a period of three to five years. You may wish to retain an interest in your gift, such as the right to receive income from it, or to give through your estate. Below are the many ways you can support North Yarmouth Academy.

Outright Gifts

Gifts of cash, securities or other property provide the Academy with much-needed financial assistance. Outright gifts have an immediate impact on our teaching and financial aid programs because they can be used to support a variety of needs.

Appreciated Securities

A gift of long-term, appreciated marketable securities helps you save taxes twice. Such a gift will provide an income charitable deduction and eliminate capital gains taxes.

Stock Gift Transfer Instructions for North Yarmouth Academy

To send stock by wire transfer (DTC), please notify your broker of the following information:

  • Please specify that the gift is for “the benefit of North Yarmouth Academy” and include the donor’s name and the gift designation (i.e. Annual Fund or Capital Campaign) on the transfer instructions.
  • The securities should be transferred to the North Yarmouth Academy account at UBS.
  • Please call the Development Office at 207-846-2380 x 9303 to let us know you have transferred stock. In order to receive the proper acknowledgment for tax purposes, please give us your name, even if it is to be an anonymous gift.

Pledges

A pledge is a formal statement of intention to make a gift to the Academy. It may be followed by an immediate pledge payment, or it may simply confirm your intention to make a gift in the future. Many donors choose to complete their pledge by making regular payments over a period of time. This method often allows donors to give more generously than they may have previously considered. Whenever possible, the Academy encourages full payment of pledges within five years of the original commitment.

Unrestricted Gifts

When you do not specify the use of your gift, NYA gains flexibility not otherwise available. Unrestricted gifts can be used at the discretion of the Headmaster to meet the changing needs such as classroom technology or a previously unforeseen maintenance repair.

Endowment Gifts

An endowment is a fund that is maintained in perpetuity, and a portion of the annual investment return is used for the purposes specified by the donor. The rest of the investment yield is returned to the endowment’s principal. The NYA endowment is invested by financial professionals contracted by the Academy and overseen by the NYA Board of Trustees and Chief Financial Officer Rick Post.

Gifts with Retained Interest or Planned Gifts

You can retain an interest in your gift for your lifetime or for a specified term of years. After that time, the funds become available to NYA. For example, you can establish a trust that allows you to receive income from that trust for a specified period or for life. We can help you structure a gift that meets your financial needs and charitable objectives.
