French 1B /The Merry Table Creperie

French 1B traveled to The Merry Table Crêperie for an authentic French lunch.   Elle est bonne la salade,  et les crêpes aussi!  Students understood the owner/waiter Jean-Claude and spoke very good French.  They ordered drinks, avoided spinach in one crêpe, asked for the check and were very polite.  Bien fait mes élèves!  The weather was perfect and we wished we could have lingered in the Old Port. The Merry Table hosts two evenings per month, every first and third Thursday, of French speaking dinners with live French music.  Located on 43 Wharf Street, Jean Claude can be reached at 899-4494.

Spanish visitors at NYA

Eduard from Barcelona and Julián from Madrid visited NYA on Tuesday to talk with
us about Spanish culture, customs, food, school courses and schedules, tennis and
fútbol. Eduard did most of the talking until John asked a question that sparked
Julián to jump into the conversation.   John showed Eduard and Julián a photo from our
textbook depicting a scoreboard with a 3-1 victory by Real Madrid vs. Barcelona.  John wanted to know which soccer team was the best!  And that is when the r’s really began to roll!

What did you learn from Eduard and Julian’s visit? Since their visit, are you more interested in travel or study abroad?
Would you prefer to study in Barcelona or Madrid? Why?  How is their school schedule the same or different
from yours?  How does their course load compare to yours?

Red Bike

Have you noticed a red bicycle parked in front of the middle school?  The rider cycled from Freeport to Quebec City this summer and had the opportunity to communicate in French.

Q:  Do you know the rider?  Ask about his travels and experience with the French language and culture!

White Dog in Magog

The French welcome pets to cafes and restaurants.  I traveled to Magog, Quebec this summer and found man’s best friend sitting in a chair and dining at an outdoor cafe.  Differences between cultures are fascinating!

Q:  What do you observe about cultures different from your own?
