AP Studio Art – Summer 2010
Work hard. Have fun. Discuss. Refine. Make great work. Feel good.
You are each inspiring young artists capable of creating work that captures our interests, asks questions, looks cool, responds to your world, impresses your friends and family, makes a statement, and makes me proud. AP STUDIO ART is a place to push these parts of yourself. I will support you in this work. You will work as hard as you ever have. You will discover unusual ways to use materials, refine skills through concentration and repetition, and develop a clear art language of spoken and visual words. You will feel frustrated and accomplished. You will become progressively more independent as the year progresses and you develop.
You will be graded throughout the year. You will also submit a portfolio of artworks according to the AP poster guidelines, with 5 original artworks in the Quality section, 12 slides of your artworks in the Breadth section, 12 slides of your artworks in the Concentration section and an accompanying written statement of intent. This will be sent to a national panel of graders, who will review and score the portfolio as your “exam”. As you are aware, many colleges accept qualifying scores and give you credit for your college-level work. That said, this is not the only reason to take AP Studio Art. Choose to do this work for your own growth as a young artist.
